Join a professional, friendly and busy team that is highly respected by the rest of the Charity.

Our busy Finance Department deals with the full range of finance-related matters, from paying suppliers through to supporting the Charity with high quality management information. We work closely with internal customers at each of our sites and various support services. External customers include NHS commissioners, bankers, HM Revenue & Customs and auditors. Throughout our department we are committed to providing excellent customer service.

The Department is made up of three main sections – Financial Accounts (transactional functions and external reporting), Commercial Finance and Management Accounts.

Main sections in Finance Department
Financial Accounts

This section is responsible for:

  • key statutory areas, such as the preparation of the annual accounts and VAT compliance and reporting
  • ensuring all assets and liabilities are reported accurately to the Charity
  • the effective and controlled processing of all financial transactions
  • handling cash for service users, ensuring their finances are managed properly on their behalf.
Commercial Finance and Management Accounts

This section of the Finance Department:

  • works in partnership with the whole organisation to review and monitor monthly performance and understand variances against budget and forecast
  • leads the budgeting and forecasting process and provides support on various major projects
  • assesses development opportunities, enabling strategic decisions to be made and to plan for the Charity’s future.
Management Accounts

This section:

  • encompasses the Management Information team, which collates information from all of the major systems across the Charity to provide user-friendly, informative reports in an appropriate format to meet individual needs
  • is responsible for the reporting of key performance indicators, which are used by senior managers to inform both strategic and operational decisions.

Roles in Finance

The types of roles within our department are consistent with any other well-run finance function and include, for example, credit controllers, cashiers, finance business partners and information analysts. There is a good mix of qualified and non-qualified roles.

The department aims to attract talented, conscientious and hardworking employees to its professional and friendly team. All employees are supported throughout their career at St Andrew’s, and encouraged to continue with their learning and development; there is a wide range of opportunities available to all. Where applicable, staff will receive assistance towards professional qualifications and external courses.

Your first year with us

St Andrew’s is a large and complex organisation, and therefore, during your first few months, you will gradually learn about our different services and processes while building excellent relationships with our internal and external customers.

We expect you to adopt a positive 'can-do' attitude to make an effective contribution to the Finance team and the wider Charity.

Teamworking is key and we will encourage you to promote open and honest communication, as well as share your ideas, thoughts and feedback.

Our comfortable, open-plan and spacious working environment allows us to be productive and enables all staff to network informally with colleagues from across the Charity.

There will be a lot to learn in your first 12 months, but rest assured, you will receive a very warm welcome to a professional, friendly and supportive team.
